Anyone who has ever said moving home is fun, is probably lying. As you may know, or perhaps are experiencing for the first time, moving is incredibly stressful. Your to-do list will be a mile long, and you will ask yourself on many occasions “how on earth do we need more boxes?!”.
While you may feel like you’re slowly drowning in a sea of items you forgot you had and tons of paperwork – moving home will all be worth it in the end.
For the time being here are some tips you can follow to help ease the process and take the pressure off.
Hire a moving company
Does it cost money? Yes. Will it be worth it? YES! If you plan on moving every item of furniture in your current home then you need to be realistic about how you’re going to do so. Even you’re dad’s transit van may not be enough and could end up taking you much longer to transport items than necessary. Sites like Get A Mover compare quotes from moving companies in your county so you can you don’t have to splash out big money.
Don’t leave anything until the last minute!
While packing is an arduous task, it is best not to leave it until the last minute as it can result in a lot of unnecessary stress. Packing always takes much longer than you plan for, especially if there is only 1 – 2 people doing it. Begin packing well in advance by gathering all the items you don’t use often. You should start the process a few weeks before your move by spending a few hours each weekend packing away your belongings.
Get rid of the things you don’t need
It’s likely that you won’t be taking everything you own with you. What don’t you wear often? What piece of furniture hasn’t been used since you moved into your current place? It’s important to ask these questions to avoid lugging stuff you don’t actually need to your new place. Donedeal is a great platform for selling second hand items, or you could always advertise within Facebook market groups.
Make a list
And check it twice… and maybe a third time. The stress of everyday life is already enough, nevermind throwing a major life event into the mix. Create a list of every task – be it small or large. This will ensure that you won’t be caught off guard on moving day. It will help put your mind at ease knowing that you’re in absolute control of everything.
